Welcome to the Julie Johnson Scholarship, a legacy created to celebrate a remarkable life dedicated to kindness, community, and perseverance. This scholarship, established by the Friends of Welaka, is a tribute to Julie Johnson’s incredible spirit—a woman whose laughter could light up a room, whose faith was unshakable, and whose dedication to uplifting others inspired everyone around her.
About Julie Johnson
Julie Johnson was more than a fundraiser and community advocate; she was a beacon of love, humor, and resilience. A proud graduate of the University of Florida, Julie spent her career championing nonprofit organizations, making an extraordinary impact through her vision and drive. She lived her later years in the Welaka area, cherishing her community and working tirelessly to make it better.
Julie’s son, Kevin, was the “love of her life,” and her unwavering positivity and love touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. Whether through her tireless work in fundraising, her passion for community service, or her infectious laughter, Julie embodied a life lived fully and generously.
About the Scholarship
The Julie Johnson Scholarship is designed to support students in their journey toward higher education or skill development, ensuring that Julie’s legacy continues to inspire others to reach their potential.
Award Amount: Up to $1,000 per recipient for the 2025–2026 academic year.
Eligibility: Available to residents of specific Putnam County zip codes (32112, 32139, 32157, 32181, 32187, 32189, 32193).
Purpose: To assist in educational pursuits beyond high school or to enhance employability skills.
This year, we are proud to offer two scholarships, each valued at $1,000, to deserving applicants who exemplify the drive and compassion that Julie brought to everything she touched.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your education or career, the Julie Johnson Scholarship Committee invites you to apply. Submission requirements include:
- The Scholarship Application, including written response to essay questions on separate pages.
- Two completed Recommendation A teacher, employer, or other individual who is not a parent or relative that has knowledge of your academic background or skill level should complete this form.
- Completed Academic Background Your high school guidance counselor should complete this form if you have graduated high school in the last two years. If you graduated more than two years ago, provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
- A copy of your high school or college transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable).
- Proof of residency within the above zip codes with a state-issued ID or other verifiable form.
